What are cherry angiomas?

Cherry angiomas are mole-like skin growths that are composed of tiny blood vessels. While they are classified as benign tumors, they are almost always harmless to your health. These imperfections tend to develop with greater age, with larger percentages of cases occurring in adults. As their name suggests, they often appear bright red in color and can grow nearly anywhere on the body, the most common places including the stomach, chest, and back.

What is seborrheic keratosis?

Seborrheic keratosis is one of the more common forms of noncancerous dermal growths in adults. Typically appearing in shades of black, brown, or light tan, these wart-like lesions often appear on the chest, shoulders, back, or face. Seborrheic keratosis growths aren’t known to become cancerous nor are proven to develop with sun exposure. However, if they appear to increase in size, more develop over a short period of time, or experience abnormal bleeding in that area, be sure to visit your primary care provider, as these may be signs of skin cancer.

What is sebaceous hyperplasia?

Sebaceous hyperplasia is identified as small bumps on the skin, often found on the forehead and cheeks when the sebaceous glands swell up. While virtually anyone at any age can develop these bothersome lesions, they are more commonly found among middle-aged adults. Those who may have a family history of these cosmetic concerns are also more likely to develop them. Despite the fact that they may not present any medical concern, they can be confused with bumps caused by basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. During your appointment, one of our providers can perform a biopsy to ensure accuracy for your treatment.

What are skin tags?

Skin tags are generally harmless dermal growths that appear as small, soft pieces of skin that hang from the surface. They can appear on virtually any part of the body, but are known to grow where skin may rub up against clothing or other skin, such as the underarms. While it isn’t known what causes their growth, it’s believed to occur when clusters of collagen become trapped within portions of the skin.
