IPL Treatments for Facial Redness

There are certain skin conditions, such as minor cases of hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation, that can be covered with makeup. Unfortunately, facial redness and flushing are things that cannot be easily covered up.

When it happens occasionally, like in response to exercise or an embarrassing situation, facial redness is not problematic. Individuals who are plagued with facial redness and flushing not only see the change in their skin color when they are exerting themselves, but they also see it when the skin comes into contact with the wind, when they drink alcohol or when they get nervous.

Some of the causes of constant facial redness include:

Facial redness is caused in some as a result of a large quantity of superficial blood vessels. Couple that with sensitive skin, and they flush easily. Fortunately, IPL treatments have been shown to effectively reverse excessive flushing in many people. IPL treatments have grown in popularity because they do not require downtime, they can usually be performed in a matter of minutes and they are effective.

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is also referred to as photorejuvenation. The procedure is performed using a device that emits different light wavelengths. This makes it different than laser procedures where just one wavelength of light is used. Since multiple wavelengths of light are used simultaneously, the procedure is able to treat a wider range of skin ailments.

The IPL device was designed with the purpose of treating combination skin as opposed to treating just one skin type. A series of IPL treatments have been shown to produce a dramatic reduction in facial redness.

The procedure is performed by scanning the device over the area. Once a procedure is complete, the patient is left with skin that is mildly red, but this dissipates over the course of an hour or so.

Since the skin is not broken and no wounds are created, there is little to no downtime, and the procedure does not require you to change your daily schedule or your daily activities. An unintentionally positive side effect of IPL treatments is their ability to remove brown spots on the skin that have been caused by the sun.

For people with skin that is constantly red, this treatment has been a game changer. It has given them the confidence that they need to go out in public and not worry about having a permanently flushed face.

The simplicity of the treatment, the ease of the application and the fact that it requires no downtime are just some of the reasons why more and more people are turning to IPL treatments as a way of addressing their facial redness and other skin issues.
