What is KYBELLA®?
KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) is the first injectable treatment of its kind that was FDA-approved to eliminate fat in the chin area. Clinically referred to as “submental fullness,” this fat can be particularly resistant to diet and exercise practices. With KYBELLA injections, patients can now eliminate this fat for good after a short series of injectable treatments, each taking no longer than 30 minutes.
How Does it Work?
This product is made primarily of deoxycholic acid, a compound that naturally occurs within the body. There, deoxycholic acid works to help break down dietary fat so it can be more easily absorbed by the body. When injected into the chin during a KYBELLA® treatment, this deoxycholic acid begins to break down the fat in the double chin area in much the same way it does dietary fat. In the weeks and months following a KYBELLA® injection session, these destroyed fat cells are gradually removed from the body, revealing a slimmer profile.
Are there any Side Effects?
Compared to other methods of double chin removal, KYBELLA ® treatments involve few side effects and only a short period of downtime. While bruising, numbness, redness, and tingling in the treatment area are common, they usually subside within a few days. Most patients experience fairly significant swelling for about seven days after each treatment session. While this can be unsightly, it usually doesn’t prevent patients from going to work or continuing about their daily routines.
How Many Treatments can I Expect?
While most patients see visible improvements in the appearance of their chins in two to four injection sessions, some can need as many as six to eliminate their fat entirely.
